Creative Shoot : Alice in Wonderland

I read Lewis Carol’s Alice in Wonderland when I was at school and I’ve always been fascinated by it’s imagery, particularly the The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. I even found and visited a Wonderland-inspired café in Paris called Le Loir dans La Théière [The Dormouse in the Teapot]. So, when the opportunity came up to create stationery based on this novel, I jumped at it and down the rabbit hole I went.

The three looks centre around three characters in the novel – The Mad Hatter, The Queen of Hearts and Alice. A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was created in the depths of the forest at Tullibole Castle, Perthshire, bursting with treats and foliage! I dressed it with a towering teacup table plan – each table named after characters in the story – and a versatile Order of Day, featuring a timeline graphic / How the story goes and a Who’s who / Meet the Cast.

These were illustrated with clocks – you don’t want to be late for your very important date – and a sleepy dormouse in a teacup. The Queen of Hearts’ invitation was inspired by her and Alice’s game of Flamingo Croquet. Hot pink and white were paired with soft grey calligraphy to offset the striking red associated with the Queen and her red, red roses.

All brought together by an amazing group of suppliers, this shoot was so much fun! And it shows you can take inspiration for anything to create something amazing for your day! Don’t be inhibited – it’s my job to make it work! You can see more of this shoot on Braw Brides.
